Meet Patty Sabbagh
I am a warm, caring psychologist dedicated to providing the highest quality of work in my role as a therapist. As I understand how difficult it can be to open up to and trust someone new, I approach this process with sensitivity and care, ensuring to create a safe, respectful and non-judgemental therapeutic space. I strongly believe that for therapy to be effective, there must be honesty, commitment and a genuine therapeutic alliance between therapist and client.
I offer counselling to clients of diverse backgrounds, from young adults through to the older community; my goal is to help them live richer and happier lives. It is a privilege to witness the resilience, humanity and courage of those who come to therapy as they grapple with their life seeking clarity, healing or personal growth.
I completed my Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology in 2008. During my internship training, I gained invaluable experience by working in a variety of settings with individuals, couples and families. I have a special interest in depression and anxiety, and my work with the South African Depression & Anxiety Group (SADAG) deepened my understanding of these concerns. My time at Family Life Centre (FAMSA) provided me with a strong foundation in supporting couples and families as they navigated relational difficulties.
Before becoming a psychologist, I worked in the corporate sector for several years. This gave me a fundamental understanding of the emotional and psychological toll that professional life can bring and has helped me in assisting clients experiencing work-related stressors.
Over the past 14 years, I have worked in private practice, both in South Africa and Australia. I engage in regular supervision and ongoing professional development, ensuring my approach stays reflective, current and thoughtful.
My therapeutic style is integrative and tailored to each person I work with, drawing from a range of psychological models to meet individual needs. I am interested in helping clients to understand their difficulties in a way that facilitates healing, thereby assisting them to gain greater insight into their lives. My clients describe me as present, respectful, empathetic and kindly challenging.
My areas of interest include anxiety, depression, grief and loss, life-adjustment concerns, self-esteem issues, personal growth and workplace stress. In addition to this, I have a special interest in working with individuals and couples struggling with relationship difficulties and break-ups. Of particular interest to me is why some relationships work and others do not. I also offer a pre-marital counselling package to help couples build realistic expectations and stronger foundations for their future.
Searching for a psychologist that you feel you can relate to can seem a daunting task. You are welcome to contact me with any questions or concerns before booking your first session.
